In 1998 I took photographs of my face in different expressions and sandwiched them together in the darkroom. As each new face emerged, I felt as if I were recognizing the true face of emotion: contradictory, shifting, unnameable. It was as if I were peeling the thin layer of silver away from the mirror to reveal the conflicting emotions just below the surface. I could see the other side.
These were later scanned and printed in 2003.
